Don’t look now but a new plethora of freshmen are about to leave their parents’ homes for the first time and flock to their new home for four years- a college dorm room! Maybe one of these little birds belongs to you. One of the most exciting parts about moving to a new place is getting to decorate it and that includes a tiny dorm room. We have compiled a list of fun ways to decorate your room for the new school year. Most of them are DIY so it gives you something fun to do this summer as well!
- A pom-pom blanket. Not only does it keep you warm but it looks cute too!
- Personalized wall photo mural- A classic and simple idea to amp up any room.
- Washi tape decor- this stuff will save LIVES. It has so many purposes and looks so great when done properly. One of the best ways to use it is to put up photos and use the tape as a bright, colorful frame.
- Succulents- who doesn’t love these plants? Not only are they pleasing to the eye, they require minimal care. Perfect for a college student. Here is how to grow your own.
- Recycled t-shirt rug- In college, you will get so many new t-shirts that you won’t have any use for your old ones. But instead of throwing them away, hang on to your memories of your senior t-shirt and soccer team shirt by making a cute rug with them.
- Custom cork board world map- This is a great thing to put on your wall that you can continuously update. You can show where you’ve been and where you plan to go.
- Message center- if there’s one thing a college kid NEEDS, it’s constant reminders. You’ll have so many things to-do piled on top of each other that you can’t afford to miss a single one. Keep in check with this super cute multipurpose message center.
- Bulletin board headboard- college dorm rooms are bland- they are colorless and lifeless, before you move in. A lot of students enjoy adding a headboard to their bed, to personalize it more. Take it up a notch and make it into a bulletin board with pictures and reminders.
- Tapestry- these are becoming really big in the college world, simply because of how convenient they are. You can find just about any design/flag/print/symbol and put it on an entire wall. It definitely personalizes the space.
- Photos on photos on photos- One of my favorite ways to decorate is by using pictures. Nothing brings back old memories and feelings of nostalgia than seeing pictures of my friends and I. This is especially great for someone who may get homesick in college.
