This past month, Bob Thieneman went to the National Association of Home Builders annual Fall Board of Directors meeting in Dallas, TX.
One of Bob’s biggest takeaways from the meeting was discussions pertaining to next year’s housing market rebound, which is anticipated to continue as it has already done this past year. Bob said, “There was a lot of talk about the market’s continuing rebound. There’s a local decrease in the supply of housing and home sites, but some businesses are responding in the right way.” He continued, “Our company is well positioned and has already shown they can adapt to trends like this.”
Bob went on to highlight the NAHB’s new use of technology. In particular, he cited an electronic voting system that was used to gauge member’s opinion on certain issues in home building. “When we were in Dallas,” Bob recalled, “we voted on the number one issue in housing, which turned out to be the massive skilled labor shortage. If this labor shortage continues, then the time and cost of home building will inevitably increase.” Further, he added that the second highest issue voted on was land shortage. “Other than labor and land shortages,” Bob added,” a major talking point was the constant battle against regulations, such as new EPA regulations. Those regulations are expected to drive up costs $2,000-$3,000 per lot.”
The National Association of Homebuilders represents a federation of more than 800 state and local representatives and more than 140,000 individual members. Since its founding, the NAHB has served as the voice of American home builders, working towards improving and maintaining access to quality and affordable housing. Beyond just promoting its personal mission, it also engages in a number of philanthropic efforts, emphasizing the importance of community in the United States.
