The summer has flown by here at RJ Thieneman!  We had the pleasure of Alan Thieneman joining us for 12 weeks as our first intern.  He spent his time shadowing builders, realtors and management within the organization and also worked directly with our staff in Marketing, Finance and Commercial Development.  He was asked to take a moment to reflect on his time here…

Being at RJ Thieneman this summer has been a fun and learning experience for me.  I am so glad I have had the pleasure to meet      the people here. They are all very “weird” but in the best way possible.  I would not have wanted to spend my summer any other place.

People always tell you that internships are all about running errands for your boss and just being their gopher. This is not true at all at RJ Thieneman.  They made me feel at home. I was given many projects and responsibilities. In Marketing, I wrote blog posts, social media tasks (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.), interviewed tenants, helped with agent website design, promoted events and took pictures for blog posts.

I also spent time in finance, property management, accounting and the real estate company.  Another learning experience was the opportunity to go out in the field and really experience, first-hand, what goes on behind the scenes and outside of the office.  Everyone in the office always gave me encouragement and the push I needed.

I have really grown more confident in this internship, not only in the office but outside of it as well. I am so glad that I had the chance to experience this internship. To all the future interns, I promise, this is a place where you can be comfortable in expressing your opinions and ideas, as well as having some fun while learning a lot along the way. – Alan Thieneman

Alan is now back at Western Kentucky University for his sophmore year.  We look forward to him returning in the future.
